Guided Musky Fishing Trips

The muskellunge or Esox, also known as muskelunge, muscallonge, milliganong, or maskinonge – abbreviated muskie or musky, is a freshwater predator commonly found in cold Southern Appalachian waterways. The predator species can be found in the French Broad River in Hendersonville and Asheville, North Carolina and in the Nolichucky River in Tennessee. Musky prefer clear waters and lurk along deep channels, log jams, weed lines and big bends in rivers.

Equipment and Outfitting

During your guided trip you will have the option to search for musky by fly fishing or conventional gear use. Fly fishing rods are outfitted for 9 or 10wts and common patterns are 7-9 inch flies in different patterns that have been found effective. Flashy flies that imitate baitfish that musky feed on are most commonly used.

If you choose to use conventional gear you will be throwing large jointed swimbaits to match the prey, large spinnerbaits, in-line spinners and top water plugs or buzzbaits that have proven effective. The most effective way to use conventional gear is the use of baitcasting rods. These rods are 8 foot in length and have 30lb. fluorocarbon coated monofilament line and a steel wire as leader. Be sure to hold on when you set the hook!
